Cornflake Crunch Brownies

WE'VE MOVED! Now redirecting you to our new page.

I think every baker needs to have a set of classic recipes in their arsenal. You, those recipes for basic things that always turn out perfect and delicious. You might not make them all the time, you bake other stuff, but they are always there, right in your pocket, like a reassuring little lucky charm when you need it.

Another way to think of it: if you had a bakery, what would be your everyday staples? Things you make every single day because they are just classic.

Dark Chocolate Avocado Brownies with Peanut Butter Greek Yogurt Frosting

Hear me out. Don't close your browser. I promise these are worth your time. I mean I hope you can trust my brownie judgement, I am a brownie connoisseur. Should I remind you of the PB&J Pretzel Swirl Brownies? Or those Mound Bar Brownies I made? And remember how good Peppermint Hot Chocolate Brownies were? And how mouth-watering-ly good those Marzipan Brownies were?

Do you really think I would lead you astray? I am insulted. Unless you're still reading and are ready to believe what I tell you, no matter how strange. In which case, I am flattered.

Brownie Doctor: York Brownies

Well...hello there. *sidles into view* Sorry for the unintentional month-long hiatus. We had the best intentions of keeping up posting during December, but then the dreaded Finals Season descended upon us and I barely saw the light of day for about 10 days straight. This year was my most intensive finals season yet (so much for senior slacking), and I barely had time to eat, sleep, and hygiene, let alone bake and photograph tasty treats (unfortunately). I did, however, manage to whip these up before the full brunt of finals hit. They sustained me a few days into the madness, then disappeared about the same time as my sanity*. I suspect a correlation.

*Seriously, ask my friends - I spent about a week in a state of constantly teetering on the edge of delirium. In fact, they'd probably say I wasn't even teetering but had already crossed the line.

Brownie Doctor: Chocolate Chip Pecan Pie Brownies

WE'VE MOVED! Now redirecting you to our new page.

What's your favorite Thanksgiving or holiday dessert? You have a lot of pies to pick from: Pumpkin, Pecan, Apple... Personally, I'm not actually a huge fan of pie. Especially fruit pies, blegh. No thank you, I appreciate the offer but politely decline. Hot fruit just doesn't do much for me. But I'm all about the pie remix! Pumpkin Pie blizzards, Apple Pie froyo (it's a thing), and of course, today's feature: Pecan Pie Brownies.

Side note: How do you pronounce 'pecan'? Pee-CAN? PEE-can? Pick-ahn? There are so many variations that I get always confused and just end up alternating between all of them.

No matter how you say it, these brownies are delicious. That's dee-lish-us.

Brownie Doctor: Oatmeal Cookie Brownies

WE'VE MOVED! Now redirecting you to our new page.

This week on The Batter Thickens, we're experimenting with nuclear physics.

Ok no, we're totally not. Are you kidding?? You wanna talk butter and sugar reactions? I'm your girl. Nuclear reactions? Yeah... that's outta my league. Big time. (We're not going to talk about that one time freshman year when I thought astronomy would be, like, looking at pictures of stars and saying things like, "Isn't space AWESOME? It's just so HUGE" and not, you know, what it actually is, which is apparently astrophysics. Let's just say it wasn't pretty.)

So nuclear physics is off the table. But I didn't totally lie to you. We ARE messing around with fusion. Fusion of fudgy chocolate brownie and chewy oatmeal cookie, that is. Because who needs star stuff when you have chocolate? (Hint: That was a rhetorical question.)

Brownie Doctor: Marzipan Brownies

WE'VE MOVED! Now redirecting you to our new page.

Do you like marzipan? I take it for granted that everybody loves marzipan because to me it's inconceivable that you wouldn't love marzipan. But apparently marzipan is less of a universal taste than I thought. My own mother is aggressively lukewarm on the stuff. I must have gotten my taste for it through my dad - his 100% German blood makes me well over 50% German myself, and the Germans are nothing if not gaga for marzipan (and beer, and meat, and bread; a balanced diet it is not).

But if you're in touch with your inner German and you do like marzipan, this is definitely the recipe for you. Marzipan is often a subtle presence in desserts, but there is nothing shy about marzipan in these brownies. This is in your face marzipan.

Brownie Doctor: Mound Bar Brownies

WE'VE MOVED! Now redirecting you to our new page.

We went to a family friend's house the other night, and, as usual, I was commissioned to prepare a dessert to bring to them. After much debate over the kind of brownie, and with the help of my dad in coming up with the idea, we settled on a new brownie doctor recipe.
My dad noticed, and I agree, that coconut chocolate is delicious together, but never made very frequently. So I decided to come up with a recipe that would replicate Mound bars. (Not Almond Joys. No one likes those.) And they were delicious.

Brownie Doctor: Popcorn Toffee Brownies

As you might know, Molly is studying abroad in London and is trying out many different cafes and British foods, so we came up with an idea: she would try stuff and photograph it, and then I would try to imitate it here.

Molly got a Cadbury chocolate bar that had popcorn and toffee in it, so I was inspired to create a Brownie Doctor recipe based on it.

The Brownie Doctor: Midnight Snack Brownies

I saw my sister's post from the other day about the Brownie Doctor book that should be made, and I thought it was a stroke of sheer brilliance, so I decided to come up with a doctored-up recipe myself.

I hope that you've tried Ben and Jerry's Midnight Snack ice cream, but in the event that you haven't, it is, and I quote from the carton, "Vanilla Bean Ice Cream with a Salty Caramel Swirl and Fudge Covered Potato Chip Clusters." It was my basic inspiration for these brownies, which are simple brownies from a box, with potato chips, caramel bugles, mini Reese's, dark chocolate chips, and white chocolate chips added in. So basically, if you're looking for a simple word to sum it up: delicious. If someone you don't like talking to asks you what you're making, you can just give them the one worded response, "Deliciousness." and let it be done at that.

The Brownie Doctor: Peanut Butter M&M Ganache Brownies

WE'VE MOVED! Now redirecting you to our new page.

If you stick around here long enough, it will soon become clear that there are two flavors I simply cannot resist: pumpkin, and chocolate peanut butter.

Also, brownies. Do they count as a flavor? Because I'm obsessed. If I had to choose a last meal, brownies would be on the menu. (Along with creamy pesto chicken pasta, caesar salad, and a broccoli/brussel sprouts/caramelized onion sauté, in case you were wondering.)
